The stage was set for ASAE’s inaugural Xperience Design Project (XDP). Like many attending this event, we didn’t quite know what to expect. What we did know, was that it was the first time it was being held, took two years of rigorous planning (and over 250 people), and was supposed to change the way the events industry viewed planning in the 21st century. It’s exciting to think we live in an era where time and distance are no longer barriers to event participation. Thanks to livestreaming and event technology, it is now possible to host an event in one city and include attendees from other locations to participate in the action. This is exactly what we did last week for an event called “Transformative Meeting Technology” — a partnership with Freeman AV, Cineplex Theatre and the National Speakers Bureau. More than 500 registrants gathered in Cineplex theatres across 6 different cities, and with the help of our event partners, we made each attendee feel like they were part of the main action. The setting was spectacular for this year’s Toronto Education Conference. And it’s fitting given that the theme was “Learning with a View”. The conference was filled with informative, engaging, and interactive breakout sessions where attendees could select their sessions based on their personal and professional interests.

If you’re heading to Frankfurt for IMEX, it’s well worth arriving a few days early because there is a lot to see and do when Frankfurt is your base. Of course IMEX has its own activities including dine-arounds, a nightclub night (not to be missed), and organized tours. But there are more ways to explore Frankfurt than you can imagine. Take a cruise, sign up for a Segway tour, or chart your own course on the U-Bahn subway network!

Event planners are on an endless search for new and exciting ways to engage attendees and create event experiences that will stand out.
